What are the Akashic Records?

Real Answers on the Source of All Answers

If you’re like many people interested in spiritual and mystical topics, you’ve probably come across all sorts of cryptic, weird sounding terms and phrases to describe what people use to read your future, heal your ills, and what path they follow to do so. You’re not alone if you feel overwhelmed by it all, sometimes having no idea how to tell what’s for you and what’s off the mark for your personal interests and spiritual needs. Today, I’d like to be your Mystic Tour Guide to help…well, demystify…one of the most incredibly potent, longstanding, and effective Universal tools for spiritual growth and healing available for use today: The Akashic Records.

The Akashic Records are the collection of energy “blueprints” containing complete records for every soul that has ever existed. Yep, that’s a big chunk of important energy! Wikipedia says, “The akashic records is a term used to describe a compendium of mystical knowledge encoded in a non-physical plane of existence. These records are described to contain all knowledge of human experience and the history of the cosmos.” For each of us, there is an Akashic Record to guide us through our life experiences. I like to call them soul maps. These soul maps describe what I call “The 4 P’s:” Purpose, Passion, Path, and Peace for your present life, but also all past and future lifetimes.

Renowned scientist Ervin Laslo, author of Science and the Akashic Field: An Integral Theory of Everything, describes how the Akashic Records, or “A-Field,” fills in many gaps of quantum physics and asserts that the A-Field is the “fundamental energy and information carrying field.” Some people liken The Akashic Records to a giant, energetic “master computer” housing all information about life, while others have referred to them as a library, a grid connected to everything, or even the “Mind of God” (Wikipedia). Other names include “Universal Wisdom,” or “Collective Conciousness.” In Judeo-Christian religion, the Akashic Records are referred to as “The Book of Life” and “The Book of Remembrance.”

Linda Howe, Founder and Director of The Center for Akashic Studies in Illinois, describes the limited knowledge and access typical of who historically uses the Akashic Records:

“For centuries, the Akashic Record has been the exclusive domain of mystics, scholars, and saints. Rightfully so. Infinite power and wisdom are available in the Record, and they have been entrusted to those well-prepared for the responsibility of deep knowing.”

But today’s troubled, yearning, deeply wounded world is in need of healing, and people are searching for answers in their lives now more than ever. Because The Akashic Records are a Universal resource, Akashic Masters, scholars, and practitioners like myself, Howe, Lazlo, and many others are spearheading a movement to bring the wisdom of the Akasha, or aether, into the hands of the yearning spiritual masses. One of the most telltale things about The Akashic Records as a truly Universal Source is that they truly belong to nobody and everybody. That is, no single religious, spiritual, or mystical tradition invented them, owns them, or can claim them. It doesn’t matter where you come from, what you do or don’t believe, or whether you spent six months in a trendy mod Buddhist spa out in California: The Akashic Records belong to you, and your information is in them. You have a right to access what is already yours.

To scratch the surface of Akashic wisdom, it is important to visit some core concepts that aid in the processing of how The Akashic Records work.
Understanding the powerfully important applications of The Akashic Records first requires us to accept three primary spiritual ideas:

1) Every living being has a soul which exists infinitely (the eternal soul) and is composed of, and responsive to, energy;

2) Souls exist within a continuum of lifetimes and are not destroyed when the body fails (reincarnation happens); and

3) Freewill today exists alongside a series of core life purposes, themes, and directions that were put in place with your participation while you were in a pure soul state (that is, before you entered your present body).

Simply put, you’ve got a soul, it doesn’t die, and the energy of your soul responds to both things you’ve decided before this life, and things you’re deciding as you go. The Akashic Records house all the juicy details (within reason) about everything you decided in advance…and what decisions to make here to help you live your life to the fullest! This means your own records have powerful, true, relevant details about where you are going, what can bring you greatest fulfillment, and how to stop needless suffering by accessing your true path…and following it.
If it’s a loving soulmate relationship you’re searching for, The Akashic Records can help you see clearly how to reach that mate. If you feel stuck doing a job for the money but long for a spiritually fulfilling career and purpose, The Akashic Records can guide you there. If you find yourself succumbing to unwanted or frustrating patterns and you want to know why you’re running on a hamster wheel in your life, The Akashic Records can illuminate what’s holding you back.

Another powerful strength of the Akashic wisdom that sets it high above many other healing and visioning modalities is that for those who are practiced and skilled in reading the Records, Universal Truth flows freely through them to help others. While, like me, many Akashic Masters may be deeply intuitive to begin with, Akashic wisdom is not based on personally predicting, projecting, “fortune telling,” intuition, or psychic reading. The skilled Master can go into the records via an energy projection of the soul self (some may call this astral projection, while others say it is not astral in nature but simply energetic alone), interact with the Keepers of the Records to retrieve yours, and read the information in the same way that someone can walk into the Library of Congress, find a resource, and read it from the book or document.

As powerful and illuminating as The Records are, it is critical that anyone interested in seeking their wisdom be attuned to the best practices surrounding Akashic wisdom tapping. First and foremost, being needed on a larger scale for humanity does not mean that they are to be “played with” in a frivolous or purposeless fashion. They are not merely a tool to predict or divine the future and thus avoid engaging in a real life experience. They cannot replace the richness that comes only with the mystery of life, which often includes demonstrating faith where knowledge is not yet in place. Akashic Records bestow their greatest blessings and healings on those ready to implement the knowledge at the soul level…not the superficial level. The most powerful Akashic Records readings often involve a deeply peaceful, loving sense of the “Big Picture” in your life…not dwelling on the details of what exactly comes next tomorrow. Sometimes, we don’t know things because finding them out for ourselves is part of the journey.

If you are interested in reading your own Akashic Records, Linda Howe’s outstanding book, How to Read the Akashic Records: Accessing the Archive of the Soul and It’s Journey is a highly recommended, plain-language resource on one specific approach to Records reading. There are many ways to access your records, and you may wish to explore several. You will find unique treasures within your own Akashic journey if you choose to learn to do it yourself.
